Abstract

This research study examines the implementation and effects of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and tokenization in modern financial systems. It evaluates the efficiency and challenges associated with these emerging technologies, with a particular focus on case studies from Jamaica and China. By comparing developments such as Jamaica’s Jam-Dex incentive programs and China’s e-CNY digital currency, the study examines the objectives, advantages, and potential risks of CBDCs and tokenization. Utilizing a literature review, regulatory analysis, and case study approach, the research highlights how CBDCs can enhance monetary connectivity, improve efficiency, and promote financial inclusion. However, issues such as regulatory uncertainty, liquidity constraints, and security vulnerabilities persist. The case studies offer practical insights into implementation strategies and address challenges related to currency and bond tokenization. The findings provide valuable recommendations for policymakers and financial institutions navigating the complexities of integrating digital currencies and seamlessly incorporated tokenized assets into established financial frameworks.
