Abstract

This study empirically analyzes AI adoption patterns and applications in EU enterprises for 2024, based on a survey of 157,000 entities. Findings show that 13.48% of EU enterprises have adopted AI, but this integration is highly uneven. Significant disparities are driven by firm size and sector, with large enterprises (41.17%) and the information and communication sector (48.72%) leading, suggesting that resource availability and data intensity are critical determinants. Text mining is the predominant AI solution, primarily used for optimizing marketing and administrative workflows. The study recommends targeted policies to mitigate adoption barriers for SMEs and calls for a forward-looking EU strategy to address socio-ethical implications. It also advises Algerian institutions to conduct similar national surveys to formulate their own strategies for accelerated and optimized AI integration.
