Abstract

This study is carried out in order to assess the performance and economic contribution of Turkey's tourism sector during the period 2010-2021. Using a descriptive analytical approach, it examines secondary data on tourism receipts, GDP contribution, employment, and other economic indicators. The analysis reveals that tourism significantly contributed to Turkey's economic growth and employment, particularly in food and beverage services and accommodation. However, the sector's vulnerability to external shocks was evident during periods of geopolitical instability and the COVID-19 pandemic. Tourism's contribution to GDP peaked at 4.1% in 2014-2015 but plummeted to 1.8% in 2020-2021 due to the pandemic. While signs of recovery emerged in 2021, the sector had not regained pre-pandemic performance levels. The study highlights the need for diversification, resilience-building strategies, and sustainable practices to enhance the sector's long-term viability and adaptability to future challenges.
